Keeping up has been as hard as it is been to slow down

The summer comes, the sun shines, and the discipline fades

Smiles heat up as skin darkens and shades deepen

Hibernation will come soon enough as skies will grow grey

But now, sunrise entices a typically slumbersome enthusiastic energy

Each ray heralding the gift of, sometimes, suffocating warmth

But even as sweat seeps and rose-colored glasses we thrive

Summer isn’t just a season, for many it’s another chance

One so necessary we often forget the bitter to taste the sweet
